"Doing business with integrity is key to a sustainable business. There is no other way." – ADB Vice-President Roberta Casali
ADB VP Casali highlights international community’s efforts to fight corruption in development projects
ADB Vice-President (VP) for Finance and Risk Management Roberta Casali delivered the keynote speech at the Asia-Pacific Anticorruption and Integrity Forum on 27 August 2024 in Xiamen, People's Republic of China, highlighting the commitment of the international community to fight corruption and promote integrity in development projects.
VP Casali underscored that business integrity programs are key to sustainable and successful operations and play a crucial role in multilateral development banks' (MDBs) efforts to deliver development free from fraud and corruption. The forum, co-organized by ADB for the second consecutive year, provided a platform for participants from Asia and the Pacific business community and peer MDBs to share experiences and work together in managing integrity risks.
How to adopt exchange of information for tax purposes
Exchange of information enables tax authorities to better combat tax evasion, resulting in increased revenue and enhanced funding for public services and infrastructure. It discourages individuals and businesses from hiding incomes or assets offshore. This transparency compels taxpayers to faithfully comply with their tax obligations, as evasion strategies are more likely to be detected.
ADB, in collaboration with the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax (Global Forum), published the Exchange of Information Handbook to assist developing member countries in understanding the benefits and fundamental concepts behind the exchange of tax-related information. It is a practical resource for policymakers, decision-takers, and practitioners who need to engage with the Global Forum.
OECD, with support from ADB's Office of Anticorruption and Integrity, published a policy paper that aims to strengthen the capacities of law enforcement authorities in Asia and the Pacific to combat corruption and fraud during emergencies. This paper builds on lessons learned from recent emergencies, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, to improve the preparedness of law enforcement authorities for future health, environmental, or economic crises.
